So your Maryland home’s windows are old, drafty, rotted, and certainly not energy inefficient…

And you’ve decided to replace them. That’s GREAT!

You’ll be able to save money on your energy bills, plus increase the value and beauty of your home.

But with all the window companies, installers, and hundreds of options available to choose from, what’s the smartest thing to do next?Doing your own research is great, but here are 5 important things to consider BEFORE you sign on the dotted line and shell out your hard-earned dollars.

#1 Get several estimates

You’ll probably get a range of prices, quality, and installer experience. What you’re looking for is a reputable, experienced, and trustworthy MD window installer who’ll take the time to answer all of your questions, provide high quality windows at a reasonable price, and won’t trash your home during the installation.

#2 Check reputation, licenses, and insurance
Nothing says more about how a company will treat you like their own customers. Read testimonials, reviews, online and offline, and check out their Better Business Bureau status. Make sure they have all necessary licenses and insurance.

#3 Worry about lowball estimates
Like everything – and especially when it comes to vinyl replacement windows – you get what you pay for. There’s more to replacing windows than just throwing in new ones. Unusually low prices often don’t include labor to remove old windows, install new ones, or proper and legal disposal.

#4 It’s all in the details
When you get an estimate, makes sure the company provides all the details in writing. This includes everything from the model of windows, options, to quantities and sizes. Other details would be exactly what the installation price includes, and what it doesn’t. Read it carefully, this is a great double check to make sure you and the contractor are on the same page. Nobody likes surprise additions to the final bill.

#5 Replacement window AND installation Warranty is a MUST
Make sure the window manufacturer offers a good warranty on the windows themselves (all reputable manufacturers will). But also make sure the window contractor you hire also warranties their work. The last thing you want to deal with is windows not working properly because they were installed incorrectly.

Hopefully, this information will help you choose the perfect replacement window, AND the right window company to correctly install them.
