Roofing and Building Material Prices Have Been Skyrocketing

Yep, unfortunately it’s true

COVID-19 has, and continues to cause all sorts of problems in the construction, roofing, and home remodel/repair business.

Problems starting with higher cost and limited availability of raw materials, worker shortages, and all the way up to the manufacturers that use those materials.

This causes a chain reaction all the way down the line to you, as the consumer.

You may have seen it on the news, but the biggest problem for home owners is the increased cost of most building materials.

In less than a year, building and roofing material prices have skyrocketed 200-300%

And not for just one item either…Plywood sheathing, asphalt roofing shingles, and almost everything else you need to build or repair your home has doubled, and in some case, even tripled in

price recently.

Roofing material manufacturers, such as CertainTeed, have told their suppliers and contractors to expect several roofing material price increases this year, blaming in part, higher than normal demand and worker shortages.

So when will prices go back down to pre-COVID?

Since we don’t have a crystal ball, it’s anybody’s guess. Hopefully they’ll drop sooner than later, but I wouldn’t dare make a prediction of when.

And we have to take that into account for every quote we do. But we’ll be right up front about pricing since it changes so often. We’re not out to make a bigger profit, but we do have to cover increased costs.

So please keep that in mind when we estimate your roofing, siding, or windows project.

What other issues are happening?

Well… unfortunately pricing isn’t the only thing affected by the Pandemic.

There are a couple of big ones…

Lead times on getting material from the manufacturers are longer than usual, so you may see delays on getting your job done.

That being said, we’re getting projects done as fast as possible.

Your choice of available shingle colors will be limited for the foreseeable future because many manufacturers are focusing on core colors to make it easier to get product.

The Bottom Line: The COVID Pandemic sucks, has completely disrupted your lives, and has disrupted complete industries and supply chains of not only building materials, but for most types of consumer products.

And obviously we can’t control the price increases, material delays, or availability of products.

But we can control how we communicate both good and bad news to you, and we are doing the best we can for you, based on the cards we’re dealt. 

So if you need a roof, windows, siding, or other home repairs right now, you might as well get an estimate now instead of waiting.

Because who knows, pricing may just continue to rise. Or… then again, they may begin to fall…
